Kisses and Raspberries June 29, 2011

When I was changing Wesley’s diaper for naptime today I gave him some kisses and raspberries on his neck and face.  He enjoyed it so much that he grabed me for a hug.  The hug made sure that I stayed close to him and would continue giving her more love in this obvious way.  He giggled and giggled.

This small event in my day reminded me of what a blessing children are.  I wish more people would view their children in this manor, instead of as a burden.

While we are speaking of raspberries, Calvin, Wesley and I went to my friend’s house today to pick some raspberries.  Here is what I made with what we picked:

a raspberry strawberry pie

6 pints of raspberry jam and 2 quarts of frozen berries

Personalized Quilt June 28, 2011

My friend, Diane had this quilt at her craft stand at the Selinsgrove Farmers Market.  Another vendor saw it and wanted to use it as the sign for his business.  I used heat n bond to get the letters to stick to the fabric. Then I stitched around the letters to make sure they never will come off. I was very happy with the way it turned out.

First Drive In Movie

Filed under: kids — janelmartin @ 1:12 am

We took Calvin to see Cars 2 on Sunday night at the drive in.  We are lucky to only live about 10 minutes from a drive in. I much prefer the drive in to the normal theater.  Calvin had a great time playing and running around before the movie.  When the movie started we all crawled into the back of the van and enjoyed the movie!

Dear Jane Block A-4 Courtney’s Stethoscope June 21, 2011

On Saturday, my friend April and I met at her house to work on our Dear Jane blocks.  We are both terribly behind where we are supposed to be.  We have been meeting once a month to work on our blocks, to try to catch up.  We have decided that we need to meet more often.  We are also going to try working on a block everyday and post on facebook what we have worked on.  So far, so good. (We’ve only been doing it for two days 🙂

I only finished one block when we were together. It is block A-4, Courtney’s Stethoscope.  It really wasn’t that hard of a block.  It took me about two hours to complete it because all of the pieces are cut out with scissors instead of using a rotary cutter.  I’m looking forward to working at least a little bit on the blocks everyday.  I may even get caught up by the end of the summer.  I’m only about 60 blocks behind where we are supposed to be.

Lake Tobias June 15, 2011

I had to hold on very tightly to Wesley, so he wouldn't propel himself out of the bus.

Yesterday my mom had off work, so we packed up the boys and headed to Lake Tobias.  We took Calvin when he was about the same age as Wesley is now.  Both boys had a good time!

This is Calvin peering over the edge of the bus. He wanted to feed the animals, but he didn't want his hand anywhere near the animals mouth.

Kitchen Remodel June 9, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — janelmartin @ 7:51 pm

For those of you who don’t know we are redoing our kitchen.  Dean started the project sometime last summer or fall.  When he is taking online classes he has very limited time to work on the kitchen.  Now that it is summer he can spend more time getting it done.  Last weekend he moved some of the cabinets to add a dishwasher.  One of his customers was getting rid of one, so we took it 🙂  He had to screw the cabinets to the wall so he emptied out the big, tall cabinet that holds tons of stuff.  When I was putting stuff back in Calvin thought that it would be fun to play on the bottom shelf.

Playground and New Haircuts June 8, 2011

Filed under: kids — janelmartin @ 9:44 pm

We spent the morning at the Lewisburg playground with some of Calvin’s friends.  Calvin even made a new friend- a little boy with a bag of cars.  Our playtime was shorter than usual because of the hot temperatures (90F.)

In the afternoon I decided to give Calvin a new haircut.  I have been cutting his hair for well over a year, but I wanted to give him something shorter for these hot summer days.  I think it turned out pretty well for a first attempt.
